Thank you for visiting today!
In our strange new world, today is Good Friday. Being separated from family and friends, here and in other places has me reflecting on growing up in Bermuda. I thought I would share how we spent Good Friday for five years. You never know how good something is until it no longer exists…
On Good Friday morning, my sister and I would wake early to see what kites Grandpa had brought us this year. We never saw them until Friday morning, as Grandpa made a point to bring them home late Thursday evening.

Good Friday Kites from Pintrest
As a back drop to this morning fun was the smell of hot cross buns baking. My Aunt Merle could have been a master baker. She baked 2 rolls of bread weekly, various cakes, pies and candies. She also created the best Hot Cross Buns (at least until I tasted those of both my Godmothers Sally and Writa, yummy!).
I included kite pictures as well as those delicious buns. I would have made some this year, but yeast has been impossible to find. Who knew?

As soon as breakfast was over, we were out on the hill flying our kites. Most of the time, we needed a little assistance from Grandpa, or one of our cousins. As the kites lifted off, the strings make this wonderful humming noise. When I visit Bermuda now, I always hear a kite and it brings back such joyous memories.
You would think this would be boring, but I have flown kites for hours. Being on a hill, overlooking the Atlantic with the sun on your face is priceless and time has no meaning.
Finally, here’s to our Kite Makers! You created hours of joy in my childhood and will never be forgotten. Thank you!
